Fairphone’s latest repairable phone is finally available in the US for $650

Ars Technica · 4 hours ago

Fairphone has officially launched its Gen 6+ smartphone in the United States for $650, marking the first time the Dutch manufacturer's devices have been sold there directly rather than through third-party importers. The phone stands out for its repairability, with a design that allows nearly every major component, including the battery, cameras and screen, to be replaced using a single screwdriver, countering the industry trend towards sealed, harder-to-fix devices.

The Gen 6+ runs a standard build of Android 16 with full Google services and seven years of promised software support, a departure from the previous US import model sold via Murena, which used a de-Googled operating system at a higher price. Specifications include a Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip, 12GB of RAM, a 6.31-inch OLED display and a 4415mAh removable battery, alongside a microSD card slot. Twelve individual components are available to purchase separately, ranging from an $8 SIM tray to a $90 screen assembly, and the phone is sold unlocked with support for T-Mobile and AT&T, available now from Fairphone directly and soon via Amazon.
