## Key points

- The players’ union wants all Spanish matches postponed this weekend.
- De Miguel’s funeral was held in his parents’ hometown.
- Tenerife and Andorra fixtures have already been delayed.

## Summary

The Spanish footballers’ union has called for all matches this weekend to be postponed, saying players across every category unanimously believe they cannot compete under normal psychological and human conditions. The appeal came as Jesus de Miguel’s family thanked supporters at the 30-year-old Tenerife forward’s funeral in Navahermosa on Thursday.

De Miguel died in hospital on Tuesday after suffering a serious injury in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a second division match on Monday; the game was abandoned and Owono sent off. Tenerife’s match at Granada and Andorra’s game against Mallorca have already been postponed, as have several midweek cup fixtures. Spain coach Luis de la Fuente and senior football figures attended the funeral, where De Miguel’s team-mates carried his casket.
