Father-of-two dies four days after Central Park cycling collision
Rich O'Brien, a 41-year-old father-of-two, died following a collision with a cyclist in New York's Central Park. Struck whilst walking to work early Wednesday morning near West 84th Street, O'Brien suffered severe head trauma and was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he passed away peacefully four days later with his wife by his side. The incident has devastated his family and community, though his legacy was honoured through organ donation.
The 32-year-old cyclist sustained only minor injuries in the collision. A witness reported that the cyclist appeared emotionally devastated by the accident, whilst emergency services took considerable time to reach O'Brien at the scene. O'Brien, a steamfitter and devoted husband and father to daughters aged eight and twelve, was remembered by friends and family as an exceptionally caring and selfless person who always put others' needs before his own.
