Irish singer-songwriter and actor Glen Hansard has died aged 56 following a motorcycle crash in Lucan, Dublin, in the early hours of 29 July 2026. He was best known for his Oscar-winning contribution to the 2007 film "Once", in which he also starred, and fans have been paying tribute online by sharing clips of his music and performances.

The crash was reportedly a single-vehicle collision that occurred just before 5am. Hansard, from north Dublin, fronted the band The Frames and released solo albums, most recently 2023's "All That Was East Is West of Me Now". With Markéta Irglová, his other half in the duo The Swell Season, he co-wrote the "Once" soundtrack, including "Falling Slowly", which won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 2008; the film's subsequent Broadway adaptation won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
