Hundreds of fans gathered in Dublin for a public wake to pay tribute to Irish singer-songwriter Glen Hansard, who died on 29 July at the age of 56 in a motorcycle crash. Hansard's body lay in repose in a wicker coffin at the Baroque Chapel in Kilmainham, with RTE estimating the crowd numbered in the thousands, including visitors who had travelled specifically from Chicago and the Netherlands. Mourners shared memories of seeing him perform, including busking on Grafton Street, and described him as humble and community-minded. His funeral will take place at St Patrick's Cathedral on Tuesday at 1:30pm local time, with a public address system outside due to limited seating, and it will be broadcast live on RTE News and RIP.IE; his family has asked for donations to the Simon Community and Ukrainian Action in lieu of flowers.
