## Key points

- Farage fears Trump may intensify attacks on Iran.
- He says the war broke Trump’s promise and was a mistake.
- Oil prices and the cost of living featured in the election fallout.

## Summary

Nigel Farage says he fears Donald Trump will intensify attacks on Iran after Republicans lost control of Congress in the US midterm elections. Farage, who initially backed the war, now calls it a mistake and says it broke Trump’s promise to avoid foreign wars; he warns further strikes could worsen economic pressures across the West.

The conflict, begun by the US in February 2026 alongside Israel, is in its eighth month and has driven up oil and fuel prices. Trump has linked the Republican losses partly to the war and higher oil costs, but says he does not regret the attack. Farage made his comments while naming former RAF Wing Commander Angus MacIntyre as Reform UK’s first defence spokesperson.
