Farmers facing rising costs are increasingly offering on-site holiday accommodation and rural experiences to supplement agricultural income. Airbnb and American Farmland Trust are launching the “Farm to Stay” grant programme, offering around 25–30 grants of up to $10,000 from November. Airbnb reported that searches for farm stays rose 61% in the first half of 2026, while hosts earned nearly $120 million collectively in 2025; USDA data also showed smaller farms recorded a median farming loss of about $2,800 in 2024. Supporters say farm tourism can fund improvements such as cabins, greenhouses and fencing, while bringing extra spending to nearby rural businesses.
