A 55-year-old man attacked a convicted murderer during his sentencing hearing in an Arizona courtroom after years of waiting for justice. Alberto Sanchez struck Abel Uribe, 33, multiple times after the judge had ordered life imprisonment for the 2022 killing of Sanchez's son-in-law, David Navidad-Parra, an Army veteran. The incident was captured on video and highlights the emotional toll homicide cases inflict on bereaved families.

Navidad-Parra, aged 27, had been reported missing in December 2022 after meeting Uribe for a test drive of a vehicle he was attempting to sell. Uribe murdered him, robbed him and set fire to the car; he was subsequently arrested after using the victim's credit card. At the sentencing hearing in Maricopa County Court, Sanchez delivered a victim impact statement, then attacked Uribe after the latter laughed during the address. Sanchez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and interfering with judicial proceedings; his attorney argued he had no prior criminal history and was a full-time worker supporting his family. The judge expressed sympathy for Sanchez's emotional state but stated that courtroom violence could not be tolerated; he was ultimately released on his own recognizance.
