Fathom Entertainment Names Disney And Imax Alum Jason Brenek CEO

Deadline · 1 hour ago

Specialty theatrical distributor Fathom Entertainment has appointed Jason Brenek, a former Disney and Imax executive, as its new chief executive. He succeeds Ray Nutt, whose retirement had been announced previously. The move matters because Fathom is transforming from its origins as Fathom Events into a fuller-service theatrical distributor, and is owned by the three largest US cinema circuits — AMC, Regal and Cinemark — which together control 19,000 screens.

Brenek brings two decades of senior experience across theatrical distribution, cinema technology and content production. He most recently founded MetaMedia, a cloud-based cinema content delivery platform that served more than 600 cinemas worldwide before its 2025 acquisition by Qube Cinema, and previously held roles as an EVP at Imax and a long tenure at Disney. Regal's Adam Rymer, speaking for Fathom's board, called Brenek "the clear choice", while Brenek praised Fathom for creating the "event cinema" category. Among upcoming projects, Fathom will handle the wide release of Laika's stop-motion feature Wildwood on 23 October.
