Fathom Entertainment has appointed Jason Brenek as its new chief executive, following the previously announced retirement of Ray Nutt. The move signals continuity for the company, which pioneered the "event cinema" category, as it seeks to build on its established position in theatrical distribution and enter what its board described as a new era of growth. Board representative Adam Rymer, chief commercial officer at Regal Global Entertainment, said Brenek's experience across distribution, event cinema production, marketing and technology, together with his prior work with Fathom, made him the clear choice.

Brenek brings more than two decades of senior executive experience and was previously founder and chief executive of MetaMedia, described as the first global cloud-based platform for delivering films and live events to cinemas at scale. His appointment comes as the company continues its evolution from Fathom Events into Fathom Entertainment, a full-service specialty theatrical distributor with major motion picture capabilities. Fathom is co-owned by AMC Entertainment, Cinemark and Regal Global Entertainment, which together represent more than 19,000 screens across the US, and its expanding footprint includes the wide release of Laika's stop-motion feature "Wildwood" on 23 October.
