The creators of Netflix's Israeli drama Fauda have said the show's fifth season, which directly depicts the 7 October 2023 Hamas attacks and their aftermath, is the most important work of their careers. Co-creator Avi Issacharoff and star Lior Raz told the New York Times that portraying that day was emotionally overwhelming but necessary, allowing them to process grief and trauma while presenting their perspective to a global audience. The season arrives amid ongoing boycotts and criticism linked to the Israel-Gaza war, but Raz said he hopes it will help viewers understand what Israelis experienced.

The 11-episode season, premiering on Netflix on 8 September, includes two episodes set on 7 October 2023 itself, with the remainder taking place two years later as Fauda's fighters try to prevent a fresh attack while grappling with lingering trauma. The writers said they deliberately avoided setting the story within Gaza, instead ranging across Europe, Israel and other parts of the Middle East, describing the challenge of staying close to reality without depicting events they considered "too terrible" to show. The cast includes Mélanie Laurent, Hakim Djaziri, Yaakov Zada Daniel and Doron Ben-David, with Omri Givon directing and Issacharoff and Raz serving as creators and executive producers.
