The FBI has extradited Alexis Flores, a Honduran national, from Honduras to face charges over the alleged 2000 rape and murder of five-year-old Iriana DeJesus in Philadelphia. Flores had evaded capture for more than 25 years before being arrested in Honduras in February by an anti-gang transnational task force, and was returned to US custody on Monday. FBI Director Kash Patel said the case demonstrates that "time and distance do not shield violent offenders from justice", framing it as part of a wider crackdown on long-standing fugitives.

Flores had featured on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list but was removed in March 2025 after Honduras's previous government refused extradition, citing domestic legal restrictions; a change in stance by Honduran authorities enabled the eventual handover. Patel noted the FBI has carried out nearly 70 similar extraditions since June, including the recent capture of Indianapolis gang leader Gregory Henderson Jr, who faces drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges linked to a Sinaloa Cartel-supplied network. Philadelphia FBI special agent Wayne Jacobs called the arrest "the culmination of 25 years of tireless investigative effort".
