## Key points

- The FBI has offered support to Philippine police.
- Thomas Markle Sr denies the allegations.
- The Met is checking what happened to a 2018 letter.

## Summary

The FBI says it is prepared to support Philippine authorities investigating allegations that Thomas Markle Sr possessed child sexual abuse images. The case has drawn renewed attention after his son said he found hundreds of images at their father’s home; Markle Sr denies the claims, calling them “sick lies”.

Meghan Markle said she learnt of troubling allegations shortly after her 2018 wedding and has said she kept her children from meeting her father to protect them. A 2018 letter to a specialist Metropolitan Police unit reportedly made further allegations, but the force says it is making internal enquiries to establish whether the letter was passed on to Meghan; it has not confirmed any investigation of Markle Sr.
