FDA to review 7 popular peptides touted for weight loss, healing and longevity

Fox News · 3 hours ago

The US Food and Drug Administration is reviewing seven unapproved peptide substances that have grown popular for claims around weight loss, tissue repair and longevity, amid rising use of compounded, non-FDA-approved versions. The review matters because these peptides are widely used outside formal approval channels, and the FDA's findings could determine whether access is tightened or whether further study is supported, directly affecting consumers already taking them.

Meetings are being held on 23 and 24 July at the FDA's White Oak Campus in Silver Spring, Maryland, convened by the agency's Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee. At least one expert, Dr Alex Tatem, a board-certified urologist, has urged the panel to weigh "real-world" safety data given years of patient use, arguing this shows a promising safety profile, while the review is expected to examine what each of the seven peptides claims to do against the available evidence.
