Felicia Day’s ‘The Guild’ Movie Breaks ‘Veronica Mars’ Kickstarter Record, Raising More Than $5.7 Million

Variety · 2 hours ago

Felicia Day's Kickstarter campaign for "The Guild: Ren Faire'd", a reunion film based on her popular web series, has become the highest-funded crowdfunded film in history, surpassing the record of $5.7 million set by the "Veronica Mars" movie in 2013. The milestone, reached with 38 hours still remaining in the campaign, underscores the enduring loyalty of the show's fan community and highlights an alternative funding route for independent productions after the project was denied a California film tax credit.

As of Thursday morning, the campaign had raised $5,704,000 from 37,455 backers, edging past Veronica Mars's $5,702,153 total. The film reunites original cast members including Day, Sandeep Parikh, Jeff Lewis, Amy Okuda, Robin Thorsen and Vincent Caso, with additions Nathan Fillion, Misha Collins and Wil Wheaton joining the cast. Day said the production had been denied California's film tax credit despite competing productions with A-list talent also missing out, arguing the credit should be automatic for projects under $10 million given only 5% of the state's fund is reserved for that category.
