A 43-year-old woman was arrested in Florida after allegedly launching an unprovoked attack on a Jewish teenager because he was wearing a yarmulke, in an incident police are treating as a suspected hate crime. Surveillance footage from a Target store in North Miami Beach captured the woman, identified as Chyvonne Palmer, striking the victim with her phone while shouting "I hate them", then grabbing a steel chair as he fled, before bystanders intervened.

Palmer was arrested on 2 August and now faces charges including aggravated battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct, with the case being handled by the State Attorney's Office's Hate Crimes Unit. A judge has since banned her from the Target store and ordered her to stay away from the victim, who described the assault as completely unprovoked, while she remains in custody on a $12,750 bond. Target said it does not tolerate such behaviour and is cooperating fully with law enforcement.
