## Summary

Laura Caron, a 36-year-old former teacher in New Jersey, has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a pupil and having his child when he was 13. The case highlights the serious breach of trust alleged by prosecutors, who say the abuse began when the boy was 11 and continued for several years.

Caron faces up to five years in state prison under her plea agreement and is due to be sentenced on 8 January, following an evaluation that may affect her sentence. She will lose her teaching licence, register as a sex offender and face parole supervision for life. The relationship came to light after the boy’s father noticed a resemblance between Caron’s daughter and his son; DNA evidence later linked the boy to the child. The pupil has previously said he did not feel groomed and did not want Caron jailed, but has made no statement on her guilty plea.
