Fernandes, Gakpo & Dorgu join international break’s injury list

BBC Sport · 4 hours ago

Bruno Fernandes, Cody Gakpo and Patrick Dorgu have joined a growing list of players injured during international duty, with their Nations League appearances cut short or missed. The injuries add to concerns for their clubs as the first international break of the 2026-27 season runs across late September and early October.

Fernandes missed Portugal’s match against Norway after playing through an injury against Wales; Gakpo went off after 16 minutes for the Netherlands, while Dorgu limped off after 30 minutes for Denmark. Liverpool’s Alexander Isak has also returned from Sweden duty with a minor thigh injury, while Kai Havertz, Brian Brobbey, Dan Ballard, Kylian Mbappe and Jamal Musiala have had injury problems. The break lasts three weeks, with teams scheduled to play four international matches instead of the usual two.

  • Fernandes, Gakpo and Dorgu are among several players injured on international duty.
  • Liverpool have additional concerns over Isak, who has returned with a thigh injury.
  • The extended international break includes four matches for national teams.
