## Key points

- Como beat Manchester United 4-1 in a damaging Champions League defeat.
- Bruno Fernandes questioned Carrick’s tactics after the match.
- United have gone seven games without a win.

## Summary

Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat by Como intensified scrutiny of head coach Michael Carrick, with captain Bruno Fernandes publicly questioning the team’s cautious approach. The loss was described as one of the club’s most humiliating European nights, and Carrick apologised to the travelling supporters while declining to discuss his future.

Fernandes said the decision not to press opponents man to man belonged to the coaching staff, and argued United sometimes needed to press higher and take more risks. Carrick replied that players must run both forwards and backwards to win. United sit 13th in the Premier League, have not won a league match since the season’s second week, and are on a seven-game winless run in all competitions.
