A ferry carrying more than 260 passengers capsized shortly after leaving the port of Kyrenia (Girne) in northern Cyprus, prompting a large-scale rescue operation involving coastguard boats and helicopters. The catamaran-style vessel had been travelling to the Turkish port of Tasucu when it began taking on water roughly four miles offshore; no casualties have been reported so far, though the incident remains ongoing.

Local officials said around 159 of the 258 people on board had been reached, with roughly 100 evacuated and brought ashore, according to the region's transport minister. Footage showed passengers in life jackets clinging to the upturned orange hull as rescue boats gathered in calm, sunny conditions. Authorities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said hospitals had been placed on alert, while Turkey's vice president confirmed joint Turkish and TRNC coastguard units were leading search and rescue efforts. The cause of the capsizing is still under investigation.
