Fifa investigating alleged racist abuse of IShowSpeed

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Fifa has opened an investigation into alleged racist abuse involving the American social media influencer IShowSpeed and a supporter during Argentina's 3-2 win over Cape Verde at the 2026 World Cup. The incident matters because it is the second high-profile allegation of racism to emerge from the tournament in a matter of days, raising concerns about conduct at football's flagship event.

Fifa said it was made aware of the incident, which allegedly took place at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on 3 July during the last-32 fixture, and "immediately initiated an investigation". IShowSpeed, real name Darren Jason Watkins Jr, 21, has been live-streaming matches during the tournament and can be seen in footage wearing a Cape Verde kit while confronting an Argentina fan in the stands. The case follows France forward Kylian Mbappe condemning Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla over racist remarks about him, with the French football federation planning to file criminal charges.
