Fire Country and Sheriff Country return for second CBS crossover

CBS has set a two-hour crossover event between "Fire Country" and "Sheriff Country" for 6 November, marking the second consecutive year the Friday-night hits have joined forces. Showrunner Matt Lopez told Deadline the event was deliberately scheduled as the fifth episode of each series this time, rather than episode 13 as in last year's crossover, so the story could unfold as one continuous, feature-style narrative rather than two disconnected episodes.

The plot follows a prison break and manhunt unfolding during a major windstorm and fire event, forcing Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) and Fire Country's Bode (Max Thieriot) to pool resources from their agencies, with personal stakes complicating their decisions. "No Way In" airs 8–9pm ET/PT with guest stars Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro and Jules Latimer, followed immediately by "No Way Out" from 9–10pm ET/PT featuring Baccarin, Matt Lauria, Michele Weaver, Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan. Lopez said the production used extensive practical (non-CGI) effects, including explosions, with even veteran Fire Country crew calling the scale unprecedented for the show.

  • Fire Country/Sheriff Country crossover airs 6 November as fifth episode of each show.
  • Story follows a prison break and manhunt during a major windstorm.
  • Scheduled earlier than last year to form one continuous narrative.

Prison breaks and manhunts are a familiar TV set-up, but this story is about two CBS shows joining forces to tell one. Fire Country follows wildland firefighters, with Max Thieriot's character Bode at its centre, while Sheriff Country is a spin-off built around Morena Baccarin's character, Sheriff Mickey Fox. Both air on Friday nights and have proved popular enough for CBS to link them again this autumn.

Crossovers like this are a common strategy for broadcast networks: pairing two hit shows for a joint storyline is meant to boost viewership for both by encouraging fans of one to watch the other. This is the second year running that Fire Country and Sheriff Country have done this, suggesting CBS sees it as a successful format worth repeating.

The significance for viewers lies partly in how the story is told rather than just what happens in it. Showrunner Matt Lopez has talked about structuring this instalment differently to last year's, aiming for a more unified narrative across the two episodes rather than two separate stories bolted together, which reflects a broader trend of networks trying to make crossover events feel like cohesive TV events rather than gimmicks.
