A fireman from Poland accused of raping two teenage girls on a beach in Great Yarmouth has been granted permission by a court to travel abroad to visit his terminally ill father, despite facing trial in December. Dawid Wlach, 35, denies two counts of rape and sexual assault, while co-defendant Madalin Ilinca, 34, a Romanian national, denies separate charges of rape, assault by penetration and sexual assault relating to the same incident. The alleged attacks took place on Great Yarmouth beach in Norfolk on the night of 15–16 May, with police called after reports that two girls had been raped in sand dunes near South Beach Parade. Wlach's fiancée, Monika Wrona, must pay a £20,000 surety and surrender her passport to secure his temporary release, with Wlach required to return his passport and hand police proof of a return flight by 6 September. Wlach, who has lived in the UK for a decade, resigned from the fire service after his arrest; his barrister told King's Lynn Crown Court his father has stage 4 cancer and that further delay could mean he never sees him again.
