Police broke up an illegal rave near the Norfolk village of Little Snoring, arresting five people and seizing sound equipment, generators and vehicles. Officers wearing riot gear moved in at around 1am on Sunday after receiving complaints about a disturbance, closing off the site's entrance and ordering attendees to leave. Norfolk Constabulary has launched an investigation to identify the organisers, with a senior officer warning that such unauthorised events endanger attendees and cause disruption and environmental damage to local communities.

Those arrested face suspicion of offences including possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, drink and drug-driving, and running a licensable event without authorisation. A local resident who visited the field afterwards said officers told him they needed riot shields to approach, despite the modest turnout, and described ravers as friendly. Illegal raves have been banned since 1990, with penalties tightened further after the notorious 1992 Castlemorton Common event in Worcestershire drew around 20,000 people, giving police powers to turn away vehicles within five miles of a rave.
