With 215 gold medals up for grabs at Glasgow 2026, BBC Sport Scotland has picked out five athletes to watch when the Commonwealth Games return to the city, drawing from more than 3,000 competitors across 10 sports. The selection reflects the range of stories on offer, from home favourites chasing a first Games medal to established stars closing in on all-time records.

Among those highlighted are Scotland's Josh Kerr, who recently smashed the men's mile world record in London and now seeks his first Commonwealth medal on home soil in the Commonwealth Mile at Scotstoun Stadium on 1 August; England's para-cyclist Kadeena Cox, a Rio 2016 Paralympic gold medallist competing at her first Commonwealth Games after missing the last two through injury, in action at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome on 30 July; and South African swimmer Chad le Clos, who needs just one more medal to become the most decorated male athlete in Commonwealth Games history, having already amassed 18 medals including seven golds.
