‘Flatbush Misdemeanors’ Dan Perlman Wraps On Coming-Of-Age Comedy Featuring Stand-Ups Maria Bamford, Gary Gulman, Jamie Lee, Sean Patton, Yamaneika Saunders & More

Deadline · 3 hours ago

Dan Perlman, co-creator and star of Showtime's Flatbush Misdemeanors, has completed filming in New York on his feature directorial debut, an untitled coming-of-age comedy. The project marks a significant step for Perlman, expanding his acclaimed television work into features and reuniting him with the world of his award-winning short Cramming, on which the new film is based with a reworked plot.

The film, described as a blend of Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Election, follows two eighth-graders at an elite New York prep school who assemble a band of misfits to repeatedly shut down their school and avoid final exams. It stars newcomers Romo Lee and Lucas Adler alongside a notable roster of stand-up comedians including Maria Bamford, Gary Gulman, Jamie Lee, Sean Patton and Yamaneika Saunders, plus Tony winner Laura Benanti. Perlman wrote and directed the film, which was produced by Lucien Formichella and Charlotte Gilbert and selected for The Gotham's Project Market with support from Rooftop Films' Filmmakers Fund.
