Flight attendant accused of ‘racist, unprovoked’ attack after referring to group of black student athletes as ‘YOU PEOPLE’ and swatting phone out of mom’s hand
A Sun Country Airlines flight attendant has been charged with assault after a Baltimore-bound flag football coach and her group of black student athletes accused her of racially profiling and berating them mid-flight. Lauren Price, founder of the DMV Prime Elite girls team, says attendant Jean Riegelman told the group "you people need to learn to sit in your assigned seats" after asking Price to move seats, then had Price and her father removed from the flight and threatened by airport security.
Price says she and her father were given 60 seconds to leave the plane or face detention, despite her children remaining on board in her sister's care, and were later quoted at around $500 each for replacement Southwest flights after Sun Country said it could not rebook them for three days. The airline, owned by Allegiant, has said it is investigating, and Riegelman, 66, has since been issued a summons on a second-degree assault charge in Maryland after allegedly also trying to knock a phone from the hand of Price's sister, who was filming the incident.
