A couple walking in northwest Miami-Dade, Florida on Sunday night were violently attacked by a group of unidentified women in an unprovoked road-rage incident. The attackers pepper-sprayed, physically assaulted and nearly ran over the victims, who sustained bruises, cuts, swelling and chemical burns before fleeing the scene. The incident has raised concerns about whether the attack was motivated by hate, particularly given that one of the victims is transgender.

Felyz Rodriguez and Davin Lopez were walking along 23rd Avenue and 41st Street when occupants of a grey car began hurling insults at them, escalating to violence after Lopez made a hand gesture. The driver pepper-sprayed Lopez, then yanked Rodriguez by the hair and dragged her down the street; video footage captured the car reversing with its door open and striking Rodriguez to the ground. Police arrived to find the attackers had fled; the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office General Investigations Unit is investigating, and the couple have stated they wish to press charges, noting this was the third incident in which they had been attacked.
