Samson Sky's Switchblade flying car has secured an £63 million investment from Dubai-based Matin Group, bringing the project substantially closer to production. The vehicle is designed to drive like a conventional car before transforming into an aircraft at an airport, with wings and tail folding away during road mode. This funding represents significant momentum for a technology that has remained largely experimental, though the company still requires a further £16 million to complete its current production plan.

The redesigned Switchblade now features fully enclosed wings, tail and propeller during driving mode, representing a major improvement over the prototype that first flew in November 2023. The vehicle takes approximately three minutes to transition between driving and flying modes, maintains a maximum airspeed of 190 mph and flying range of 450 miles, and uses a hybrid-electric drivetrain where a petrol engine powers a generator supplying electricity to motors and propellers. Samson plans to conduct testing with three production prototypes around the end of 2026 or beginning of 2027, though these performance specifications still require verification during production-prototype flight testing.
