Fontaines D.C. Announce New Album Dopamine Chamber, Unveil “Marianne”: Stream

Consequence · 4 hours ago

Fontaines D.C. have announced their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, set for release on 16 October via XL Recordings, alongside the lead single "Marianne". The Irish band's follow-up to 2024's acclaimed Romance sees them move further from the guitar-driven sound of their early records, with frontman Grian Chatten describing the project as reflecting both pleasure and danger after drawing inspiration from time spent in Venice, Vienna and Sicily.

The album was again produced by James Ford, and Chatten has framed it as a darker, more automated counterpart to Romance, saying the new record feels "60 percent corrupted" compared with the previous album's balance of human and mechanical influences. He said the band deliberately avoided an optimistic resolution, wanting the album to serve as "a catastrophic warning". Lead single "Marianne", inspired by the TV series Ripley, blends woozy atmospherics with new-wave textures reminiscent of Eurythmics or The Cure, and arrives with a music video directed by Dave Meyers.
