Troy Parrott has enjoyed an eye-catching start to life at Real Betis, scoring the winning goal against José Mourinho's Real Madrid before netting again on his Champions League debut at Lille four days later. The Republic of Ireland striker was let go by Tottenham after a difficult loan spell and a stalled career under Mourinho, who once deemed him not ready for regular first-team football, making his current form against his former club and manager a notable turnaround.

Parrott, 24, joined Betis for around £17m this summer after rebuilding his reputation in the Netherlands, scoring 51 goals in 97 games for AZ Alkmaar following a formative loan at Excelsior. After a shaky full debut in a 5-2 defeat to Levante, he came off the bench to score the winner against Madrid and then struck again in a 3-2 win over Lille, taking his tally to two goals in two appearances.
