The Days is narrated by and centres on plant station manager Masao Yoshida, played by Koji Yakusho, and unfolds over the critical days of 12 to 15 March 2011. After the record-breaking Tohoku earthquake triggered a tsunami that knocked out the plant's diesel generators and caused a blackout, the reactors' coolant pumps failed. The show follows Yoshida and his team as they battle to stabilise the reactor cores and prevent the primary containment from failing, risking their lives to protect Japan.
