## Key points

- *Buffy* makes its action serve character and story.
- *Crystal Lake* became Peacock’s fourth most-watched scripted original.
- The article says *Crystal Lake* gets sidetracked by Jason’s lore.

## Summary

The article argues that *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* remains a stronger action thriller than *Crystal Lake*, despite the latter’s polished kills and renewed popularity. It credits *Buffy* with making fights matter by tying them to its characters’ relationships and struggles, while saying *Crystal Lake* becomes weighed down by franchise lore.

*Crystal Lake*, an eight-episode prequel about Pamela Voorhees, recently became Peacock’s fourth most-watched scripted original and drew attention for its inventive kills. But the article says its later episodes add twists about Jason’s origins that distract from Pamela’s story. By comparison, *Buffy*, which premiered 29 years ago, used conflicts such as Buffy’s fights with Angel and Faith to develop emotional storylines, while keeping its conspiracies focused on characters and themes such as distrust of institutions.
