Although it does not include fantasy or time travel, the series similarly places romance within a period of political conflict, with the Mexican Revolution shaping its characters’ choices and relationships.

Based on Ángeles Mastretta’s 1996 award-winning novel, *Lovesick* follows Emilia Sauri, played by Renata Vaca, a young woman determined to become a doctor in a society that marginalises women. Created, produced and directed by Mastretta’s daughter Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, it centres on Emilia’s love triangle between revolutionary adventurer Daniel Cuenca and peace-seeking doctor Antonio Zavalza, alongside her personal development amid Mexico’s transformation.
