A new London map dubbed the "squirrel" has revived debate over the capital's most desirable areas, favouring eastern and south-eastern neighbourhoods such as Peckham, Stratford and Sidcup over traditionally affluent spots like Knightsbridge. It follows the viral "London banana" map from a year earlier, which had celebrated the north-west, south-west and central areas while dismissing much of the rest of the city as undesirable.

The squirrel-shaped map, posted on X by user EwanBen with the caption "Best place in the world bar none", was widely mocked for both its odd design and its choice of locations, with critics questioning how it resembled a squirrel at all and mocking the inclusion of zone five's Sidcup. Residents of the highlighted areas nonetheless defended their neighbourhoods: Greenwich locals praised its history, culture and community feel, while Stratford residents credited the 2012 Olympics with driving infrastructure investment and making the area more affordable and multicultural.
