Ernest Hemingway's supposed love of mojitos, celebrated each year at Florida bars around his July birthday, is likely more legend than fact, according to scholars. Mark Ott, a Hemingway expert, says the association is "more myth than reality", and the drink most closely tied to the author through his writing and personal habits was actually a daiquiri, not a mojito.

The mojito connection largely stems from a widely repeated (but disputed) tale linking Hemingway to Havana's La Bodeguita del Medio bar. Scholars instead point to his well-documented fondness for daiquiris, particularly at Havana's El Floridita bar, and his own writings, which reference the drink far more frequently than the mojito.
