Louis Leterrier, director of 2008's The Incredible Hulk, has confirmed long-standing rumours that a darker, longer cut of the film exists, featuring cameos from Tony Stark and Captain America. Speaking during a Q&A promoting his new film The Last House, Leterrier revealed that the deleted material included ideas that helped shape the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe, which The Incredible Hulk helped launch alongside Iron Man in 2008.

Leterrier said the alternate cut is not a full hour longer as some fans had claimed, but is noticeably darker and longer than the theatrical release. He teased a scrapped North Pole-set opening sequence featuring both Iron Man and Captain America, saying the ideas were "a little ahead of its time" and ultimately deemed "a little too dark" for release. He added that some of the deleted footage has previously surfaced publicly, while other scenes remain unseen, fuelling speculation that Marvel Studios could one day release the full cut.
