## Key points

- Mark Teixeira won Texas’s 21st Congressional District with 55 per cent.
- He defeated scientist and former NIH policy worker Kristin Hook.
- He will replace Republican Chip Roy in the House.

## Summary

Newly added coverage includes Teixeira’s statement thanking supporters and promising to be a “strong, responsive voice” for the district. The former baseball star won Texas’s 21st Congressional District for the Republicans, defeating Democrat Kristin Hook, a biological scientist and former National Institutes of Health policy worker.

Teixeira received 55 per cent of the vote to Hook’s 45 per cent, according to the Associated Press, a narrower margin than Hook’s 26-point loss in 2024. The district was redrawn during Texas’s mid-decade redistricting; Donald Trump carried it by 22 points in 2024. Teixeira will succeed Republican Chip Roy, who did not seek re-election, and brings 14 major league seasons and a 2009 World Series title with the Yankees.
