Former TCU safety Jacob Fields has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury following an alleged fight in the Horned Frogs' locker room, in which he is accused of striking teammate Dozie Ezukanma. Fields turned himself in to the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office, was booked, and released on a $50,000 bond. He had already been dismissed from the TCU programme for violating team rules over the incident.

Fields, who transferred to TCU from Louisiana Tech after being named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year, is being represented by attorney Cory Dubose, who says he was denied access to defend his client at the initial bond hearing. The case has also caused friction between TCU and local media after the university revoked press credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, which first reported the story, prompting criticism from journalists. Head coach Sonny Dykes has called the episode "out of character" and a "teaching moment," while the football programme also faces mounting pressure following a lacklustre season-opening loss to North Carolina in Ireland.
