Former UFC fighter Shore turns hand to promoting
Former UFC fighter Jack Shore has moved into fight promotion nearly two years after retiring from professional mixed martial arts, launching a new striking-only event called Stand and Bang. The Abertillery fighter, who continued coaching after stepping away from competing, said he wanted to find a "niche" in the market rather than compete directly with existing MMA or Muay Thai promotions, and hopes to capitalise on what he describes as an "all-time high" for the Welsh MMA scene.
The first Stand and Bang show takes place on Saturday 22 August at Ebbw Vale Leisure Centre, featuring 23 bouts inside a 20-foot boxing ring with no takedowns or grappling allowed. Shore said the format, mostly fought in MMA gloves and scored primarily on damage, is designed to be more accessible to casual fans who found grappling hard to follow. He also said he wants to run a fighter-friendly promotion, prioritising fighters' welfare over profit after experiencing what it was like to be treated poorly by promoters during his own career.
