## Key points

- David Ferrer will join Casper Ruud’s coaching team in 2027.
- Ruud has dropped to 23rd after a title-free 2026.
- Ferrer is leaving his role as Spain’s Davis Cup captain.

## Summary

Casper Ruud has appointed former world number three David Ferrer to his coaching team for the 2027 season, after a disappointing year on court. The move brings an experienced former player into the team as Ruud looks to improve his form.

Ferrer, who is due to leave his role as Spain’s Davis Cup captain after this month’s Finals, will work alongside Ruud’s father, Christian, and Pedro Clar. The 27-year-old Ruud has not won a title in 2026 and has fallen to 23rd in the rankings; he previously reached number two and has been a Grand Slam finalist three times. Ferrer reached the French Open final in 2013 and coached Alexander Zverev in 2020 and 2021.
