Two former leaders of IBM’s X-Force Red team have launched RemoteThreat, an offensive cybersecurity company backed by $7 million in pre-seed funding. It aims to help companies and US government operators plan and carry out cyber operations at AI speed, as the same technology could enable attackers to create and deploy sophisticated malware more quickly.

The company says its 15-person team has built a platform of eight connected systems and around 1,000 tools, which can be controlled by people or AI agents and connected to models from OpenAI, Anthropic or open-weight providers. It reports customers including a major bank, a securities exchange operator, a large US healthcare company and an AI lab, and says access is limited to vetted organisations. Its launch comes amid US policy calls for closer industry involvement in offensive cyber operations, including a federal programme for vetted companies to act against foreign cybercrime groups under government oversight.
