Frantic search underway for crew after Boeing 737 wreckage found by officials

Fox News · 1 month ago

Officials in Pakistan have launched an urgent search after a K2 Airways cargo plane carrying five crew members disappeared on Tuesday evening while flying towards Karachi. The Boeing 737 lost radar and radio contact at around 9:21 p.m. local time, roughly 155 nautical miles west of Karachi, having earlier departed from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates. Some wreckage has since been recovered, but no crew members have been found, and the cause of the crash remains unclear.

The aircraft, operating as Flight 1732, was a roughly 27-year-old Boeing 737-400 freighter registered AP-BOI and was reportedly K2 Airways' only aircraft. Minutes before contact was lost, the crew reported a "navigation system problem," and radar data showed the plane descending rapidly; aviation expert Imran Aslam told ARY News that such an abrupt fall, rather than a glide, was highly unusual even in an engine failure. On Wednesday, officials said wreckage had been found 53 miles south of Ormara, with the Pakistan Navy frigate PNS Zulfiqar, air force aircraft and a navy ATR plane from Turbat all deployed to assist the search over the Arabian Sea.
