An X account apparently run on behalf of jailed Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes shared a glamorous kissy-face selfie on Sunday, sparking widespread attention despite Holmes currently serving an 11-year sentence at Bryan Federal Prison Camp for defrauding investors. The account, which the user believes has been operated by her fiancé Billy Evans since she has no internet access in prison, engaged directly with followers, confirming her whereabouts and the origin of a snake ring she wore in the photo. The post comes shortly before the release of a closely guarded documentary in which Holmes was interviewed by Nathan Fielder just before she began her prison sentence.

The selfie, later revealed to date from 2019, had racked up more than 12 million views by Monday night, with the account replying to commenters in a notably candid and playful tone. Holmes, 42, was convicted in 2022 on four counts of fraud after Theranos's blood-testing technology was exposed as bogus by Wall Street Journal investigations. The forthcoming documentary, screened at the Telluride Film Festival under tight secrecy including confiscated phones, features an intense exchange between Holmes and Fielder about honesty and deception.
