Para-swimmer Rebecca Redfern will compete for England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow just four months after giving birth, describing her preparation as "a little unconventional." The 26-year-old, who has a visual impairment, said she chose not to delay starting a family for her career, given her condition may eventually cause her to lose her sight entirely, and she did not want to risk missing out on seeing her children grow up.

Redfern, a 2024 Paralympic gold medallist and Tokyo 2021 silver medallist, gave birth to a daughter in March and will race the 50m freestyle rather than her preferred 100m, having not had time to build up full race fitness. She said the relocation of the Games to Glasgow, after Australia's Victoria withdrew as host, has made things easier logistically, allowing her baby and support team to stay close by while she continues breastfeeding. Redfern, who also has a six-year-old son and received an MBE in 2024, said she is putting no pressure on her result and simply wants to compete and show her children "they've got a supermum."
