## Key points

- Barry matched last season’s eight goals in 12 games.
- He has become Everton’s key senior striker.
- Newcastle’s manager claimed a foul in the goal’s build-up.

## Summary

Thierno Barry has transformed his start at Everton, matching last season’s eight-goal total in just 12 games this season. His latest goal helped secure a win at Newcastle, and his form has made him especially important to the team after Beto’s departure.

Barry scored eight times in 41 appearances last season and had only one shot across his first 16 Everton games. He has now scored twice against Newcastle in five days, with only Erling Haaland scoring more among Premier League players in all competitions this season. Everton paid £27m for the 24-year-old, who has also been involved in 15 of the club’s 24 big chances in the league; Newcastle’s manager disputed the build-up to Monday’s goal.
