Fugitive drill rapper who went on the run twice and fled to France ahead of deportation flight is jailed – as police admit they have no idea how he escaped the country

Daniel Boakye, a 21-year-old drill rapper known as Dsavv, has been jailed for 10 months after twice escaping police custody and fleeing to France while awaiting deportation to Ghana. Police have admitted they still do not know how he managed to leave Britain or enter France, raising questions about security lapses during his time in custody. The case is significant both for the embarrassment caused to authorities and for Boakye's brazen taunting of police via a rap video released while he was on the run.

Boakye first escaped by slipping out of handcuffs while using a toilet during a hospital visit, before being recaptured in Thamesmead the next day. Days later he escaped again from Lewisham Hospital, where he was being wheeled around unhandcuffed after allegedly swallowing wraps of drugs, and remained free for 16 days until he was arrested in La Bouëxière, a commune in Brittany, France. He had been serving a six-year sentence at HMP Feltham for conspiracy to commit robbery, having taken part in knifepoint robberies between 2021 and 2022 that netted over £115,000 in stolen cryptocurrency, and was due for deportation to Ghana, where he has no family, shortly before a scheduled parole hearing.
