Stephen McConnachie was sentenced to 27 months in prison after leading police on a high-speed chase and subsequently hiding in an off-duty police officer's home. McConnachie drove a silver Audi A3 at speeds of up to 94mph in Motherwell, Lanarkshire, before crashing in nearby Hamilton in June 2024. After evading an initial search involving a helicopter and dog unit, he concealed himself in a downstairs cupboard in off-duty officer Mark Cameron's house. Discovered at 9pm, McConnachie became aggressive, insulted Cameron and refused to leave, sparking a physical altercation before uniformed officers intervened and arrested him. He admitted dangerous driving, assault and threatening behaviour, and was additionally banned from driving for six years.
