Fujifilm has released the Instax Pal 2, an upgraded compact digital camera that emphasises tactile controls and a fun shooting experience over high image quality. The device evolved from the original Instax Pal by functioning as a proper standalone camera rather than primarily a printer, appealing to photographers who deliberately seek retro cameras for their engaging, spontaneous feel.

The Instax Pal 2 features a 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor capable of 10MP or 1MP shots, optical and digital viewfinders, and physical controls including a dial for downloadable colour filters and a lever for selecting frame layouts matching Fujifilm's Instax films. Images can be transferred to smartphones via USB-C or Bluetooth, or printed directly on compatible Instax Link printers; the camera is available for pre-order at $170, though reviews note its interface is sluggish.
