"Furies," an assured directorial debut from Rami Kodeih, is a Beirut-set heist drama about two sisters driven to rob a bank amid Lebanon's economic collapse. Set in spring 2022, three years after Lebanon's banking collapse froze deposits, the story follows Maro, a divorced hairdresser barred from accessing her savings, and her younger sister Dalia, who needs surgery for early-stage uterine cancer that insurance will barely cover. After a bank meltdown and a chance encounter with a neighbouring flat, Maro hatches a heist plan echoing an unsolved 1976 Beirut robbery, the largest safe-deposit-box theft in history, with the sisters' bond and dark humour anchoring the film's tension.
